PUTRAJAYA: The Ministry of Health (MOH) advises students to abide by the quarantine instructions issued by the authorities.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said their failure to comply with the directives would have a negative impact on those at risk.
“The MoH urges all students to take a lesson from the case of some students of an Institution of Higher Learning (IPT) who were required to undergo quarantine at home, but were found not complying with the notice under Section 14 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act, 1988 (Act 342 ).
“They were later diagnosed with COVID-19. This could put high risk individuals such as older people, children and people with a history of chronic illness at risk of being infected,” he said at a MoH daily media conference here today.
According to the records, as of May 18, 2020, out of the total number of 6,941 cases of COVID-19 positive cases in Malaysia, 961 were aged 60 and older (13.8 per cent).
On the other hand, children aged 12 years and below comprise 318 people (4.6 per cent).
“In terms of comorbidity factors, as of May 17, 2020, 10.8 per cent (744 cases) of all COVID-19 positive cases had chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, heart disease and other diseases.
“These high-risk groups need to be protected. Protect the borders of our country, state, district, home and even our families,” he said.
