Ancient Asia formed a home for people from varied cultures and religions. For a large number of existing religions in contemporary Asia, their origins date back even before the start of the western calendar in Christianity. A myriad of monotheistic and polytheistic religions with exceptionally meticulous types of worship and worldly views were incepted out of similar conditions socially. The initiation of the formalized religions corresponds to the start of the civilization, or in particular, the city.
To begin with, the primitive religions in Asia took on quite a lot of customarily held beliefs and traditions of the native people. These could be worked into a rigorous system of beliefs varying from one form to another. Apart from standardizing the way in which people worshipped, these formalized religions, especially in the olden times were used as tools of extending power to the ruling parties or as a tool for the social order. Simply put, the religions in the prehistoric Asian societies became the matters of the state.
Religion became a way to execute and justify the actions of the state. This brought about different social beliefs, morals and valued in the society and people were discriminated accordingly. In the past 4000 years, there were many religions initiated in the society. Out of all these religions, seven of them stood strongly considering the number of followers it had. These seven religions included Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Islam, Taoism and Confucianism.
Asia has followers to all these religions and though they may perhaps seem extremely different from each other from the outer layer, the inner layer is pretty similar. These religions propagated different goals and ideas; however they all thrived on the faith of its followers. Amongst all the religions, Asia has the largest followers of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity and Buddhism. India consists of a greater number of Hindus, whereas the most populated country, China has scores of Buddhism followers. The religions are pretty diverse in the Asian subcontinent and since it possesses the largest land mass in the world, is an abode to the majority of the population across the globe.
