PUTRAJAYA: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is a man of a ‘super ego’, and someone who cannot accept defeat, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
In an interview with TV3’s Soal Jawab programme tonight, in the run-up to Umno’s general assembly tomorrow, Najib, who is also Umno president, said Dr Mahathir is not used to being on the losing side and the situation had more or less perturbed him.
“I do know leaders like Dr Mahathir. I know his methods and approach.
“However, I feel comfortable with the party support I’m enjoying right now, which only means all of his efforts to topple me within the party are unsuccessful. I have the support of all (Barisan Nasional) MPs,” said Najib.
He also said Pas did not seem to back Dr Mahathir and Pakatan Harapan.
“During the passing of the 2017 Budget recently, Pas abstained from voting for it, and did not support the Opposition (pact) to reject it.”
On the Dr Mahathir-Kit Siang declaration to remove Najib as prime minister, he said the approach was not in accordance with the Federal Constitution, hence why it was rejected by the Rulers.
“To topple the party, he (Dr Mahathir) needs to topple its president. When Dr Mahathir was Umno president, those who around him today had criticised him worse than now.
“Dr Mahathir has this huge, super ego. He needs to win. If he is in a battle, he needs to win. And when he fails, Dr Mahathir tends to be aggressive.”
