BESUT: A man was suspected of setting his father’s house in Kampung Keradang, Jertih on fire last night after his demand for money was not met.
The 27-year-old man, who is believed to be a drug addict, had been arrested.
Besut police chief Supt Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said the suspect had previous records of threatening his father who was in Tapah, Perak to return to Jertih and to give him money.
“The suspect ransacked his father house and also set fire to his father’s motorcycle as well,” he told reporters here this evening.
The Fire and Rescue Department managed to stop the fire but 80% of the house had been destroyed.
Mohd Zamri said the suspect was nabbed not far from house based on tip-offs by neighbours who saw the suspect in the area before the fire started.
The suspect was tested positive for methamphetamine, he added. — Bernama
