PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s team of legal advisers has walked out on him. They decided not to represent him, The Malaysian Insight reported today.
It was a major blow to the embattled former prime minister who is facing a battery of charges related to money laundering.
Former solicitor-general Datuk Mohd Yusof Zainal Abidin, senior criminal lawyer M. Puravalen and other members of the legal team failed to reach common ground with the client on several issues, the news portal said.
Najib is under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) probing how RM42 million from SRC International had allegedly ended up in his private bank account.
On May 22, lawyers Datuk Harpal Singh Grewal and M. Athimulan withdrew from Najib’s legal team because another team came in to replace them.
Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, has been summoned by MACC and is expected to give her statement regarding the SRC international case later today.
