KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan (PH) government will continue with the National Tahfiz Education Policy (DPTN) introduced by the previous government with improvements to be made from time to time, according to Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Fuziah Salleh.
She said the government was concerned with the progress of tahfiz education in producing a generation with balanced knowledge of worldly needs and that of the hereafter.
“DPTN will be implemented with the cooperation of the Islamic Religious Department in all states and this policy is an effort at standardising management of tahfiz education, namely memorising of the Quran in Malaysia by taking into account the national education policy and the existing regulations in the states,” she said during the oral question and answer sessions in the Dewan Negara today.
Currently, she said, the status of DPTN had been made known to the Council of Rulers in October last year and the policy had also been passed by the Malacca State Assembly.
She was responding to a question by Senator Datuk Jamilah Sulaiman on whether the government would review DPTN to improve the performance of tahfiz schools in the country.
Fuziah said the initiatives to improve DPTN, among others, would involve enhancing the laws and enforcement, strengthening the tahfiz education curriculum by making it on par with the mainstream education and empowering the governance of tahfiz institutions.
“Through DPTN, an accreditation and certification system for tahfiz institutions will also be introduced,” she added.
She also called on operators of tahfiz centres to register their centres to facilitate security control and management to avoid incident such as fire, like at the Pusat Tahfiz Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah, Datuk Keramat, in Septembetr last year which claimed the lives of 21 students and two teachers. — Bernama
