PETALING JAYA: Linggi assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rahman Redza is a potential candidate for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming Port Dickson by-election, according to Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin.
Khairy tweeted today that although many had suggested former mentri besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, he felt it was better for the party to be represented by a local candidate.
“I have a bit of political experience in Negri Sembilan. Port Dickson or formerly Teluk Kemang is better off represented by a local candidate, although it is difficult for BN to win, it’s better to stand a local candidate.
“The man who is best suited to me is Abdul Rahman, a 40-year-old lawyer graduated from London School of Economics, he is also a two-term state assemblyman with a good track record,” he said in his Twitter account today.
The Port Dickson parliamentary seat was vacated after incumbent Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah resigned today morning to allow incoming PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to contest there.
In the 14th general election, Danyal won with a 17,110-vote majority defeating BN candidate Datuk Mogan Velayatham who won 18,515 votes and Mahfuz Roslan from Pas (6,594).
