IPOH: Traffic along the KM42 of the Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands road came to a stop after heavy rains caused a mudslide on a hillslope.
Cameron Highlands Fire and Rescue Services Department chief Mohd Hilmi Khasfi Mat Zali said the incident happened at about 2.45pm after heavy rain that began at about noon.
At press time, only one lane of the road was opened to traffic as the mud was still flowing down the hillslope while the other lane is being cleaned up.
The rain has, however, stopped.
Mohd Hilmi said a concrete retaining wall broke as a result of the rain, sending muddy water and earth down the slope.
“No casualties were reported in the incident,” he said.
He advised motorists heading to or coming from Cameron Highlands along the stretch to be alert, as work to clean up the debris from the road is still underway.
