PORT DICKSON: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Port Dickson parliamentary by-election, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has rejected the demand made by certain quarters for same-sex marriage to be recognised in the country.
“What they do, we don’t know … that’s between them and the Creator … but to force us to accept same-sex marriage, the answer is no,” he said while describing as inappropriate for groups championing the agenda of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) to force other people to support their idea.
The PKR de facto leader said this during his campaign at Masjid Jamek Pasir Panjang, here today.
Also present were the Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar, who is also the state PH and PKR chairman, Aminuddin Harun and Negri Sembilan Amanah chairman Zulkefly Mohamad Omar.
The Port Dickson by-election is seeing a seven-cornered fight between Anwar, Lt Col (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar (PAS) and five independent candidates, including former Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abd Samad and Anwar’s former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
The election was called after incumbent Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, 68, from PKR, vacated the seat on Sept 12 to give way to Anwar who wants to make a comeback to the Parliament.
The Election Commission has set Oct 13 for polling, with Oct 9 for early voting. — Bernama
