KOTA SAMARAHAN: A somber air enveloped the Sarawak General Hospital here today, as state ministers, government officials and assemblymen converged upon learning of Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s passing.
Many admitted that they were shocked upon hearing the news.
Sarawak Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said he last spoke to Adenan on Friday.
“He rang me last Friday and we were supposed to meet on Monday. But then he told me he was not feeling well, thus, we had cancelled the meeting.
“He spoke in a very soft voice,” recalled Wong.
Local government minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said Adenan was admitted to hospital last Saturday, after complaining of feeling ill.
“I was with him in the last few days. He was still talking about autonomous rights, education, talking about his people even when he was ill.
“I never expected this to happen,” said Sim.
