SHAH ALAM: The police arrested an army captain, two corporals, ex-captain and a GrabCar driver in connection with the theft of RM2.6 million from a security company in Sungai Dua, Rawang in three locations last Friday.
The suspects were picked up in Sepang, Putrajaya and Kuantan.
Selangor police chief, Datuk Mazlan Mansor said in the first raid, a 34-year-old army captain was nabbed in Putrajaya about 12.30am.
He said subsequently, the police raided a house in Kuantan at 6.45am, before detaining a former army captain and a corporal in their 30s.
“In that raid, the police found RM715,000 in two bags. Interrogation of the two suspects led to the arrest of another army corporal at a nearby house at 8.25am
“In the second house, the police seized RM100,000 which was found in a bag,” he told a press conference at the Selangor police contingent headquarters here on Monday.
Mazlan said in a follow-up operation, a 41-year-old GrabCar driver was arrested about 10pm in Sepang on the same day in connection with the seizure of RM427,897.
Meanwhile, the police chief said three employees of the security company who were nabbed on May 14 – the day of the incident – were released on bail.
“We managed to find some of the money from all the suspects totalling RM1,242,897 and the case is investigated under Section 392/397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery as well as Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971,” he added.
In the alleged theft on May 14, the former army captain was believed to have fled with the RM2.6 million which was kept in a vault at the security company.
It is believed the man, who was also the manager of the Rawang branch of the security company, had reason to sleep-in at the office, before locking up three of his colleagues and fleeing with the money on a motorcycle. — Bernama
