PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 40 new cases of COVID-19 with 31 cases being non-citizens.
Director-General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were no import cases on Thursday.
“Therefore, the cumulative number of COVID-19 positive cases in Malaysia is 6,819 cases and the number of active cases with COVID-19 infectivity is 1,356 cases.
“To date, 16 COVID-19 positive cases are being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). Of these, four cases require respiratory assistance,” he said at a daily press conference here on Thursday.
He added that a total of 70 COVID-19 positive cases had recovered and were discharged on Thursday.
“Thus, the cumulative number of cases that have recovered and have been discharged from the ward is 5,351 cases or the equivalent of 78.5 per cent of total cases,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said another case of death from COVID-19 was also reported, raising the death toll to 112 cases or 1.64 per cent of the country’s total cases.
“The 112th death (Case 6,780 case) was a 39-year-old Malaysian citizen. He had a history of heart valve disease, as well as an accident at the beginning of the year when he had both the main bones in his leg amputated and was unable to move by himself.
“He was pronounced dead on May 12 at 9:52 pm in the emergency ward of Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital, Pahang,” he added.
