GOPENG: There is no dumping of durian in Perak although production of the ‘king of fruits’ is reported to be plentiful during the current season.
The State Director of the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama), Basri Jasmo said the plentiful production of the fruit this season enabled the durian to be sold at a reasonable price that could be afforded by the people.
In addition, Perak Fama also adopted the approach of sending the fruits to states which were short of durians as a marketing approach.
“There has been no dumping of the fruit anywhere, besides, the wholesalers are also selling the fruit at a lucrative price,” he told a press conference in conjunction with the Sale of Seasonal Fruits @ RTC Perak, here today.
The programme held at the Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) will run for two days beginning today from 11am to 5pm.
Meanwhile, State Exco for Public Utility, Infrastructure, Agriculture and Plantations Abdul Yunus Jamahri said Fama brought 20 tons of various types of fruits for sale during the two-day program.
“They included Batu Kurau durians, musang king and cloned durians besides rambutan, mangosteens and jack fruits,” he said while praising such efforts in encouragging the consumption of local fruits.
Abdul Yunus also announced that the Fama Fest 2018 would be held on July 26 to 30 at the Gopeng RTC by providing more than 200 stalls selling fruits, local food and products.
Earlier, Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin was reported to have urged the state government to provide the sites for housing to enable more affordable homes to be built by the Federal Government for the people.
She said by providing the land together with infrastructural facilities, construction cost for the houses would be much cheaper and enabled the ministry to build bigger and more comfortable homes.
Zuraida disclosed this to reporters after the interview program Ruang Bicara on Bernama News Channel (BNC) in Kuala Lumpur, today.
