PETALING JAYA: The deaths of two Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel while in the detention unit at Sungai Wangi in Sitiawan, Perak, have sparked much debate on the social media with netizens calling for justice for the deceased.
Most social media users said those involved behind the tragedy should be severely punished.
“So many murderers behind uniform and so many cases of death when in custody,” MK Ganesan posted on his Facebook as a comment.
Mae Usin wrote: “Police, it’s over to you now! Make them scream like hell (sic).”
Social media users also questioned the standard operating procedure (SOP) at the detention unit and called for its review.
“They claimed it was a ‘training’ session … They claim they adhered to the SOP. Those dead soldiers revealed the hidden facts … the horrible truth … And may justice prevail,” said Eunice Atan.
Another said : “Tortured to death . Worst then Communist. Where and what is the SOP”.
RMN in a statement on Saturday said Nik Muhammad Baihaqy and Muhammad Lailal Tuiman died at the detention room while undergoing physical training at the camp on Friday.
According to the statement, the two appeared to be exhausted and were vomiting and having breathing difficulties after undergoing physical training according to the (SOP).
The duo then were then given treatment by staff at the unit but were pronounced dead by the paramedics at 3.15pm.
